one comes down, another going up??

While demolition work on the old Savoy continues apace, it looks like there may be another bit of demolition happening near the Granary/Michael Street Area. The relevant article about a whole new shopping area is here. Speaking to the Limerick Post , Defence Minister, Willie O’Dea said that what is planned is "a huge retail complex that will be the biggest in Munster and will, when completed, employ over 1,000 people”."The development company has bought up a rake of property already including Shannon Development’s accommodation in the Granary. It will bring a whole new impetus to the city centre and will dovetail very well with the planned restoration of O’Connell Street. This development which is as inevitable as next Christmas has huge potential for the city,” he said. Just when is all of this going to stop? The tiger must run out of steam at some stage..

And while speaking of demolition, the lady who was on holiday when the home next to her in Lilac Court blew up a few weeks ago came home to find that half of the roof of her house was missing. Apparently the house will have to be demolished as it is unsafe. No news yet as to the cause of the original explosion.

Meanwhile, in taxi land, it looks like the bitching over the new taxi ranks has begun. How did it take so long for it to start? Out on the Northside Shelbourne Park is to get a half a million euro facelift. A childrens playground and drainage works on the two pitches will be carried out.
